Just finished sorting the harvest for tomorrow and it’s looking pretty much the same as last week. That’s not a bad thing, considering it’s only May and we have such a plethora of summer veggies!
Shares this week include (amount is according to share size):
Individual shares- asparagus, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes and fresh herbs
Partial shares – all of the above, plus green onions.
Full shares – all of the above, plus cabbage.
For sale this week at the market stands include: asparagus, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, fresh herbs, vegetable plants, flowers, herbs, eggs and ground beef.
So what’s going on at the farm? We recently had a group of preschoolers and their parents from Beautiful Savior Lutheran in Lee’s Summit come take a tour and they had a blast. The kids enjoyed climbing on the tractors, chasing the chickens and picking tomatoes while their parents asked questions about everything. We’re planning an Open House for everyone sometime in June, so you’ll all get a chance to do the same!
We’ve been busy trying to run some irrigation to the different fields with water coming from the ponds, creek and cistern. It’s a bit of trial and error but we hope this will allow us to have a much more consistent harvest throughout the summer months.
That’s all for now. See you at the markets!
